What Does BS 851188 Mean?

The British Standards Institution is the National Standards Body of the United Kingdom and Globally recognised and respected. The BSI produces technical standards on a wide variety of products and services and also supplies certification and standards related services to Businesses.

The BSI testing process involves installing an appropriate flood resilience product in an approved BSI testing facility to simulate static water, dynamic impact, waves and currents, and the leakage rate. The testing is intensive and precise, to ensure only the best products achieve Certification.

M3 Floodtec ensure all flood resilience solutions are independently tested by the British Standards Institute, with all relevant products meeting PAS1188, and testing now successfully completed to the new exacting requirements of the new British Standard BS851188. The first company in the world to achieve the new British standard!

Developing Standards For Flood Resilience

The Property Flood Resilience (PFR) Code of Practice was developed by the Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA) and the Building Research Establishment (BRE) with input from leading industry organisations including DEFRA, CIWEM, ICE and RICS. It provides a recognised benchmark for specifying, procuring and delivering effective flood resilience measures.

Who Are CIRIA?

The Construction Industry Research and Information Association (CIRIA) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that promotes collaboration and knowledge sharing across the built environment and construction sectors. Its goal is to improve performance, innovation and best practice within infrastructure, construction and environmental management.

Supporting Best Practice In PFR

Supported by organisations including the Environment Agency and UK governments, the Code outlines six standards for delivering effective PFR. M3 Floodtec supports this framework and aligns its service delivery with these principles, while also supporting CIWEM’s work to develop accredited PFR training programmes.
