Grace College, Gateshead
Client: Grace College
The Problem
Following a serious flood event, the site faced an increased risk of future flooding. Due to access via a steep driveway, surface water runoff from the main road above posed a significant threat to the main college entrance, as well as the plant rooms and sports facilities.
The Solution
To mitigate this risk, measures were implemented to divert surface water away from vulnerable areas.
Three sustainable timber flood gates were installed as part of a new 1.0m high flood wall — one gate measuring 4.0m wide and two measuring 2.0m wide. All gates were single-leaf units, manufactured from Accoya, an engineered softwood, and finished with a clear Osmo coating to ensure long-lasting protection and durability.
