The Boat House, Eaton Hall, Ironbridge
Client: Eaton Hall
The Problem
Built beside the famous cast iron bridge designed by William Crosley, spanning the River Dee on the Eaton Estate, the Victorian boathouse has experienced numerous flood events over the years.
Rising flood levels had already necessitated modifications to air bricks and drainage outlets. However, following the flood events of February 2020, the solid oak entrance doors required additional flood protection. Due to the building’s heritage status, replacing the doors was not an option.
The Solution
A lightweight, deployable flood defence system was proposed as the most suitable solution.
For the two main entrance doors, M3 Floodtec designed a Defender Barrier system installed within powder-coated black guide rails, recessed behind the entrance porch to remain as unobtrusive as possible. The base rail was chased into and cast across the entrance floor, creating a level threshold and an effective seal against potential floodwater ingress.
