London Imperial College
Client: TAG Construction
The Problem
M3 Floodtec was contacted by TAG Construction to provide a flood defence package for the basement laboratory at London’s Imperial College. The doors needed to protect the college in the event of a surge tank failure within the laboratory, preventing flooding from affecting the rest of the building.
The existing timber fire doors offered no protection against potential flood events, leaving the basement vulnerable.
The Solution
M3 Floodtec supplied both Defender demountable barrier systems and Defender steel flood and fire doors, with glazed panels fitted to allow visual inspection of the room for flooding.
A fire and flood-rated solution was designed to provide four hours of fire protection alongside permanent flood defence. The old timber doors were removed and replaced with steel flood-fire doors, completing the work within one day. Colour matching to existing door units was achieved with a two-stage powder coat finish.
