Morpeth Mansion, Westminster
Client: Morpeth Mansion & Terrace
The Problem
Morpeth Mansion and Morpeth Terrace are large Georgian apartment blocks located in Westminster, London, directly opposite Westminster Cathedral.
McLarens Insurance approached M3 Floodtec to develop a flood resilience solution that would meet the stringent planning restrictions of Westminster Council. The buildings featured a variety of timber communal and apartment doors, each with different styles and sizes, making replacement and flood protection a complex challenge.
The Solution
Following a full survey of potential flood entry points, M3 Floodtec proposed a tailored scheme involving:
- Accoya timber flood doors and flag windows, custom-made to match the style and size of each existing door
- Patented, BS 851188 Kitemark™ certified coloured flood-resilient airbricks
The installation was completed over three weeks, overcoming challenges such as varied thresholds at communal entries and restricted access on a busy London street. The solution provided robust flood protection while preserving the aesthetic and heritage character of the Georgian apartment blocks.
