Ross On Wye Sports Centre
Client: Ross On Wye Sports Centre
The Problem
As the home of several football and cricket teams, the Ross Sports Centre is a key community asset, serving as a recreation venue for all ages.
Situated on low-lying land, the playing fields and Club House lie within the immediate flood plain of the River Wye. When the river rises and bursts its banks, floodwater inundates the playing fields and Club House. The situation is worsened by numerous cavities and passages beneath the buildings, creating multiple pathways for water to enter.
Because the building is only partially occupied, flood mitigation needed to be passive and effective even when the premises were locked.
The Solution
M3 proposed a combination of Defender steel flood doors and Defender UPVC door screens, which self-seal against flooding as soon as they are closed, alongside Non-Return Valves installed in the drainage network.
The project was grant-funded through the PFR Grant Scheme, National Lottery Sports England, and the local council.
Works were completed in April 2021.
