Barnes Cafe, Sunderland
Client: Barnes Cafe
The Problem
The former Coach House in Barnes Park has undergone a major refurbishment to enhance its café facilities. However, due to its location on a low-lying site at the edge of Sunderland’s largest historical public open space, the property is prone to surface water flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.
The Solution
As part of the refurbishment, M3 Floodtec commissioned three new steel flood doors, installed by Flood Control NI, to protect the property from external surface water inundation.
The installation included two single steel doors and one glazed screen door, all manufactured to the PAS 1188 flood standard. The glazed screen unit was designed with wheelchair access to ensure full accessibility to the main café area while providing effective flood protection.
