The Problem

Situated in the heart of Whitehall, Central London, the Corinthia is a 5-star luxury hotel with 283 bedrooms and a high reputation for quality and service.

Maintaining uninterrupted 24/7 operations, including protection from surface water flooding, has become a critical concern following recent flood events in the capital. With extensive basement rooms and corridors housing essential hotel functions, even minor flooding could cause serious operational disruption.

The hotel has over 10 separate accesses to lower levels and a complex network of underground drainage channels, meaning flood protection needed to be effective yet unobtrusive, without restricting day-to-day operations.

The Solution

M3 Floodtec designed and installed a comprehensive flood protection system to safeguard the hotel from flash flooding while maintaining full operational access.

Defender deployable barrier system, rapidly deployable in minutes
Pipe bungs to seal drainage channels
Sump and pump units with automatic float switch operation

This integrated system ensures that the hotel’s basement areas remain protected at all times, with minimal impact on day-to-day operations and unrestricted access maintained for staff and guests.
