St Ledger Homes, Doncaster
Client: St Ledger Homes
The Problem
In late 2019, the Government announced that residential properties and businesses affected by the devastating floods in Autumn 2019 would be eligible for flood resilience grants, administered by Local Authorities. These grants were intended to fund Property Flood Resilience (PFR) measures and provide protection against flooding in high-risk areas.
Managing over 20,000 homes, St Ledger is responsible for providing housing services on behalf of Doncaster Council. PFR is a significant consideration, as areas within the greater Doncaster region are frequently affected by flooding from the River Don.
In early September 2021, St Ledger identified 79 properties within the Bentley and Fishlake wards that required flood resilience improvements, following flood risk surveys undertaken by RAB Consultants.
The Solution
St Ledger appointed M3 Floodtec to implement PFR measures to the identified properties. The works included the replacement of standard doors with British Standard anti-flood doors, kitemark™ certified to BS 851188, replacement of standard air bricks with self-closing air bricks, installation of anti-flood non-return valves, and the provision of anti-flood covers to external wall-mounted meter cabinets.
Measurement surveys commenced at the start of October, with installation beginning two weeks later, and completion scheduled for the end of November 2021.
