The Problem
Located just 100m from the River Wharfe in North Yorkshire, the Tadcaster Medical Centre has been frequently affected by flooding.
Following a significant flood event in February 2022, it became clear that the building required comprehensive flood protection to prevent further water ingress and damage.
The Solution
After a site survey, a tailored flood protection scheme was designed for the medical centre.
The solution included:
- Four flood barriers using a combination of Defender walls and stop logs for all access doors
- Non-return valves installed within the drainage system
- Internal puddle pumps with permanent piped outlets
- Replacement of conventional air bricks with anti-flood self-closing air bricks
- Application of Waterstop masonry protection to address all risk areas within the client’s budget
Manufacture of the products began in June 2022, with full installation on site completed by early July 2022.
